Is ADHD Coaching Different from Psychotherapy?

It is important to understand coaching is not psychotherapy or consulting. Instead, coaching is a unique and supportive collaboration that draws from elements of philosophy, neurology, physiology, mentorship, guidance and consulting. Similar to therapy, it’s set up as a one-on-one or group setting and is private and confidential. However, the meat of psychotherapy is the analysis of your emotions and motivations. A great deal of information is gathered from your past, and childhood. Coaching however, does not ask “why?” and does not remain steeped in the past. Therapy is excellent for healing. Coaching, focuses on understanding who you are and helps you integrate immediate solutions to your present day to use effectively over your lifetime.

It’s a progressive science in which a highly supportive and solution-focused environment helps to empower you to create customized, valuable strategies and take accountable actions to produce the healthy outcomes you desire. Your coach will help you hold your focus, guide you back to what is working for you and streamline one session to the next to help you complete your goals. Coaching is about evolving and upgrading your life. Old negative and self-defeating patterns are released as new self-empowering patterns are reformulated. However, you are responsible for the movement, one small step at a time.
